Toubacouta village
The small village of Toubacouta is situated off the main paved road along a laterite path, in a more discreet region of Senegal.
The village itself is located in the heart of the Sine Saloum delta, near the classified National Park World Heritage Site by Unesco. At the edge of the lagoon, it is remarkably quiet despite its 3000 inhabitants.
There are many places and things to explore in the village. Including alleys you can find by chance. For example, you can watch the craftsmen working on their doorstep using traditional methods to transform peanuts into oil or repairing the canoes at the edge of the lagoon. These are all examples of the humility and ingenuity of the local artisans using basic tools.
In the village, visitors can watch football matches in a World Cup atmosphere which is also worth the trip. Football games are a time of fun and celebration with music and shouting. It is a perfect occasion for seeing how the people enjoy having fun and visitors can share in the experience.
Toubacouta is ideally located in Senegal for travelling the area by a 4x4 or pirogue.
